Creating New Literature

Creating a new piece of literature is the first step to taking full advantage of Scribe Share. It is a quick and easy process that should take no more than a few minutes and is started by:

  1. Making sure you are logged in.
  2. Click on the ‘Create New Literature’ option under the header.
  3. Fill out the required fields which can be spotted with a * symbol.
  4. Then just click create and you will be automatically sent to the writer’s journal of that piece.

Becoming a Co-Author

Becoming a co-author is easy and will allow you to collaborate on a piece of literature. Start by:

  1. Making sure you are logged in.
  2. Find the piece you want to join and click on view literature.
  3. Once you are able to view the piece, click on the 'Authors' tab.
  4. See how many author spots are avaiable, if any. If one spot, click on the join button.
  5. You will be brought to a page where you can make your request. Read the rules of joining and if you accept, put in a request to join

Please note that when you request to join, the ScribeMaster may have to approve your request first. If not, you can go to the writer's journal of that piece and start working on it.

Accessing Your Writer's Journals

Accessing a writer’s journal essential if you are a Scribe Master (author) of a piece, or a co-author of piece. You must have previously created a piece or are a co-author of a piece before you can access the writer's journal. Start by:

  1. Making sure you are logged in.
  2. In the upper right corner of the window, click on the My Portfolio option.
  3. There will be three options located in a combo box towards the left, center of the screen. Each option will have a different result
    • Recent Post
    • If you want to view your recent post, select the ‘Recent Post’ option.
    • Scribe Master
    • If you want to view the pieces that you are the author of, select the ‘ScirbeMaster ‘ option and when the results come up, select the ‘Writer’s Journal’ option.
    • Co-Author
    • If you want to view the pieces that you co-authored, select the ‘Co-Author' option and when the results come up, select the ‘Writer’s Journal’ option.

Keep in mind the every different piece you write will have a separate writer’s journal.

Writer’s Journal Tutorial

This section of the tutorial is going to walk you through how to fully utilize your Writer’s Journal.  If you have created a piece of literature, you will also have a Writer’s Journal that accompanies that particular piece. For example, if you write an essay, you will have a Writer’s Journal for that essay that helps you to plan it out before you start writing.  If you then write another essay of a different topic, you will have a completely new Journal for that essay.  Now let’s get started. 
How to Enter

Please read the above section about accessing your writer's journal.

Main

Overview – This section will be the first section that you will see after you click on “Writer’s Journal”.  It will display everything that you wrote about your piece when you were creating it in “Create New Literature”. 
Co-Authors – This section can be used to contact your Co-Authors.  Anyone who is helping you write your piece will be found in this section, making personal messaging quicker and their profiles easier to find.
Discussion Room – This section is just for Scribe Master’s and Co-Authors.  Anyone working on a particular piece can write a message in this section and everyone else working on the same piece will be able to read it and respond. 

Characters

In this section, you can create new characters, by clicking on “New Character”. You can view the characters that you have created, by clicking on “View Characters”.   

Note: Only the characters that you have created for this Writer’s Journal will show up in this section.

Setting

This is where you create new settings for your piece by clicking on “New Setting”, or view settings that you have previously created by clicking on “View Settings”.

Note: You can only view settings that you have created in this Writer’s Journal.

Groups

This section is where you can create groups of people, animals, or any other living or non-living beings that you can think of.  You do this by clicking on the “New Groups” link.  You can also view the groups that you have already created by clicking on the “View Groups” link. 

Note: You can only view groups that you have created in this Writer’s Journal.
Objects

In this section, you can create new objects, by clicking on “New Object”. You can view objects that you have created, by clicking on “View Objects”.  

Note: Only the objects that you have created for this Writer’s Journal will show up in this section.

Notes

This section is where you can create note for yourself that may or may not pertain to the piece.  This section is designed for any random thoughts or ideas that you may have and just want to store someplace safe.  You do this by clicking on the “New Note” link.  You can also view the past notes that you have already created by clicking on the “View Notes” link. 

Note: Only the Notes that you have created for this Writer’s Journal will show up in this section.

Chapters

This is where you can create new chapters for your piece, by clicking on “New Chapter”, or view the chapters that you have previously created by clicking on “View Chapters”. 

Note: The synopsis of the chapter is like a description for your readers to review to decide if they want to take an interest.  This is not where your chapter is to be written.  Once you finish writing the synopsis and Development (development is optional), you will see a link that reads “New Post” this is where you will write your piece.   You can create more than one chapter.

Logs

This is here you can keep track of what it being done in this particular piece of work.  For Scribe Masters, it makes for easier management when dealing with many Co-Authors because they have the ability to see who is doing what and at what time.

Admin

Default Options – In this section, Scribe Masters can select what their Co-Authors can or cannot do within the piece.  For example, The Scribe Master can decide that the Co-Authors cannot delete any information from their Writer’s Journal or they are allowed to edit characters but not create them, etc.
Author Access – This section will show the Scribe Master the privileges that each co-author has. The Scribe Master can choose to grant individual co-author special privileges or take some away.
Options – This section allows you to edit the “Overview” section at the top of your Writer’s Journal.  This section is in the “admin” part of the Writer’s Journal because only the Scribe Master can change the overview of the piece.
